”I have always had a great love for rousing stories of adventure and Westerns. Maybe it was growing up, gathered around the family TV to watch Roy Rodgers or Bonanza, John Wayne or Rory Calhoun.

My own family has a colorful pioneer history. In 1848 they came across the Oregon, California, and Mormon Trails. Many settled in Utah near Salt Lake City in Porterville and Logan. The pioneer part of my heritage produced very rugged individuals, women who became prairie doctors whose sons became doctors."

What The Media Is Saying....

A suspenseful adventure with heart, ...the fast-paced adventure serves up a hearty history lesson with side dishes of political, social and environmental commentary. Realistic and complicated characters give the familiar story of the pioneer’s journey fresh life.” Kirkus Reviews

"TV and film actor Pierpoint offers a rowdy Wild West adventure in his first book for children . .." Publisher's Weekly

“A pioneer story that will keep readers on the edge of their seat. Part Wild West tale, part quest, part historical fiction, part family drama, the novel moves easily among the genres . . . This isn’t a historical lesson but an adventure, and it’s a fine one at that, sweeping readers along with breakneck pacing. -The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books
